Professor Emerita Olivia Hooker recently turned 100 years old.

When she was just five years old, her father owned a successful department store in Tulsa, OK where in 1921, she hid beneath a table as her home was ransacked during the race riots.

She said that the disaster took her by surprise because she didn’t know that racism and prejudice existed.
